Absconded from Byzantium Constantinople, the Portrait of the Four Tetrarchs carved around 300AD represents a period in Roman history where the Empire was ruled by a group of four leaders, rather than one emperor.
Today these fine fellows are found at the junction of the Basilica San Marco and the Doge's Palace

There are many campanile in Venice, but this is the most magnificent. The Campanile is not ancient -- it was rebuilt after collapsing in 1902.

Saint Mark became the patron saint of Venice when his remains were taken from Alexandria and brought to Venice in 828AD.
