For many centuries, it has been the church of St Mary and the Martyrs.

In the Piazza Colonna one finds the almost 100-foot high Marcus Aurelius Column. Carved military scenes line this 2nd-century AD marble column, honouring Marcus Aurelius' victories.
I just don't understand how the skilled craftsmen of yesterday were able to execute such a large, detailed carving.
